Nelson To Greymouth

Below is our brewery tour of the Greymouth brewery. It was really short, as the company only has 10 employees.

















Above, the pictures are of the spectacular Cape Foulwind. It was called that because the man who discovered it didn't like the wind. I thought it was a pretty amazing place. Of course, our weather was excellent throughout New Zealand.

The other picture is of the tidal surge pool at Pancake Rock. It got its name because of the rounded, layered look of the rocks at this place. My pictures can't quite show it that well on the blog.

Anyway, that is the description of the pictures for this update, but here are the stories. First and foremost, the bus ride from Nelson to Greymouth was supposed to be long and boring. We were really wrong. As soon as we boarded the bus that morning, a sign up sheet was passed around for jet skiing. Now, as I have done this before, I was going to pass on it, but then it was explained to me that it was between two towns for 30 kilometers down a river and the bus would pick us up in the next town. That caught my attention. So yes, it was once again the 4 of us on an adventure.

When we got to the starting point, one of us asked about rapids, and to our suprise, the guide answered - they get up to class 3. I figured out later that it was OK even though they were rapids, they were not shallow water rapids. And hey, the guide took us right into them! The rapids set up some excellent jumps. We were really given the freedom to do whatever except for 3 places in the trip. Honestly, I was one of the funnest things I have ever done. Absolutely a blast. Everyone on the bus had to watch us, and even stop at a couple of points to do so. We got some really dirty looks when we finished, but it was great there was only a few of us, because it meant more room to play. All this fun, and the Buller Gorge was amazing scenery as well. I was focused on wake jumping, but it was nice.

Oh yeah, that was just the morning. The afternoon was short hikes around Cape Foulwind and Pancake Rock. Both cool, but the former more than the latter.

Tht night we went out to a brewery tour and BBQ. Altogether an excellent day. The hostel was even entertaining, as it was called Noah's Ark and every room had a theme animal. Pretty fun stuff.
