Fraser Island

From Byron Bay, we took a bus, (a long, miserable bus ride) to Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay is a little coastal town just off of Fraser Island. It is the world's largest sand island. There are a few ways to see it, but the favorite is generally getting into groups of about 10, and being given a 4x4, camping gear, and food for 3 days/2 nights. This is what we did. We ended up with the first all guy group the people said they had seen in 2 years. Now, this was not an exciting prospect at first, but removing females does allow guys to say and do whatever they want and it made food shopping very easy. They have a suggested food list, so we order the meat for 10 from the butcher and buy about 6 loaves of bread and some cereal and long life milk from the store. I think some pasta and sauce, too. This was an actual conversation - "Do you want to get any vegetables" (me), Our irish mates - "Yes, let's get 2, no 3, onions to go with the steak." And food shopping was done. None of the suggested coffee, tea, sugar or whatever made it. A fair few bags of chips, cartons of beer, and boxes of goon did find room in the truck.

Best part about the all guy group - consisted of 6 irish blokes from Cork, who all knew each other. Then banter between them was priceless. Hilarious guys, i certainly hope to visit them in cork at the first opportunity. Anyway, we got ourselves and everything into the truck and took the ferry from hervey bay to fraser.
